The Purposeful Education Project (PEP) Programs

Children’s Futures (CF) /Parent Child Center West

Target population-young, at risk families in the West Ward of the City of Trenton for Center Base activities
Point of entry/eligibility- referrals come from CF Central Intake, community agencies, residents, other MSF programs: pregnancy thru 5 years for the center based services
Expected outcomes-children are living in a healthy, stable environment as measured by parental attitudes, health care outcomes of family members, milestones of growth and development, goal completion, and knowledge of community resources

Healthy Families-TANF Initiative for Parents (TIP) Program:
Target population-pregnant/parenting women identified with child up to 14 days old living in the West Ward and Mercer Co residents who are receiving TANF benefits who have a child under 1 year of age
Point of entry/eligibility-pregnancy thru infancy up to 3 months and the Division of Family Development (DFD) referral list
Expected outcomes-children are living in a healthy, stable environment as measured by nurturing parental attitudes, health care of family members, milestones of growth and development, parental goal achievement, and increased knowledge of how to enhance language development and literacy completion

Family Support and Reunification Program
Target population- families whose children have been removed or are at risk of removal due to issues of child maltreatment
Point of entry/eligibility-referral by DYFS to the Mercer Street Friends Parenting Group for participation in this psycho-educational group and further assessment for need of individual parenting support/education, IPSE sessions, and community based support and/or family counseling
Expected outcomes- out of home placement prevented or occurrence of reunification; (children are living in a healthy, stable environment as measured by parental attitudes, health care of family members, milestones of growth and development, goal completion, and knowledge of community resources)

• Lack of knowledge or incorrect information
• Lack of concrete resources
• Isolation-lack of supportive connections in the community (both formal and informal)
• Poor self-esteem/self image and chronically elevated stress evolved from childhood maltreatment resulting in behavioral health and life choices with negative outcomes
