Basic Skills / Literacy Services
Adult Basic Education / General Education Development (GED) Prep Program
• Target population-Mercer County residents not having a high school diploma or GED
• Point of entry/eligibility-individuals, age 16 and over, who desire to achieve their GED through a course of adult basic skills and GED preparation
• Expected outcomes- students will progress through the educational levels as assessed for every 50 hours of instructions; those eligible will be prepared for and take the GED examination
Evenstart Family Literacy Program
• Point of entry/eligibility-parents with children birth to 7 years old who are low income and at low literacy levels referred by identified partners and others as space permits
• Expected outcomes- improvement in parental skills related and leading to improvement in: self-sufficiency, support of children’s literacy/language development, and support of children’s physical, emotional, and cognitive development
One Stop TANF Community Work Experience Program / Education Directly Related to Employment
• Target population- Parents receiving TANF benefits in need of intervention aimed at reducing barriers to self-sufficiency and employability;(core activity); Parents receiving TANF benefits who have a need to enhance some aspect of literacy/knowledge or GED prep necessary to enhance their employability.(non-core)
• Point of entry/eligibility-referral by One Stop case managers for clients meeting specific criteria related to employability
• Expected outcomes-Parents will be evaluated further, receive services in relation to a case plan focused upon diminishing barriers, receiving experience in various job areas, and become employed
